A mental health therapist is usually  the doctor that helps you deal with all kind of interior problems. People who want to talk to someone, who have problems in their families, people that have eating disorders, self esteem issues, image issues, depression problems, loneliness problems , addictions for example alcohol, drugs, cigarettes etc, stress problems, anger management issues etc. People come to a therapist with all kinds of problems that you can`t even think of. Many come just to release some tensions, to express some feelings. Some are shy and need to escape this problem and a good therapist has to know exactly what to do and what to say to make them feel comfortable enough to loosen up in session, but also outside it. The role of a mental health therapist is to help people help themselves. The doctor doesn`t really help you on the spot. This takes time and a lot of sessions to reach the point where the pacient is totally cured. After the process is finished the pacient has learned something during this hole time and has the power to help himself. Therapy is only dealing with feelings and learning how to controle youself. For example if a person has intimacy issues the doctor listens to many of the stories the pacient says, comments and gives advices at each one. The doctor`s role is to make the pacient understand and see things more clearly.

The role of a mental health therapist is mostly to be a support for those who really need it. People pay lots of money to see a therapist and to receive an advice. For some people it may seem like a waste of money, just to tell someone your deepest secrets. But, they will be surprised to find out that they are wrong. A therapist can also tell you the meaning of some of your dreams. If they are related in some way with what happened to you or in your childhood. Usually dreams are the result of the subconscious and they have many meanings. The doctor can help you figure out what exactly do you need. If you have anger management problems, the doctor can show you methods through which you can calm down. Easy things like counting till 10 or closing your eyes and breathe deeply are working very well.

In the end the role of a mental health therapist is that of a friend if you want to put it this way. He listens and gives you advices, prescribes even a treatment if it`s needed. Whatever you talk to your therapist remains confidential and so, maybe it`s better than talking to a friend. If you have some issues that you can`t seem to solve then maybe you should try going to a therapist, you never know how much good it will do you.
